Disable Notes From Appearing in Mail Inbox Lion

I've slowly been syncing my iPhone to iCloud. Recently I noticed when using the Mail feature for Lion my Notes (synced from iCloud) automatically appear in my Mail inbox. For the most part this is quite a nuisance.

There's a quick and easy solution to get rid of this using System Preferences (shortcut ⌘ + comma):

Mail > System Preferences > Accounts > Untick 'Show notes in inbox'
This will get rid of any notes appearing on your Mail inbox.

How To Transfer Contacts from Nokia to iPhone using Lion OSX and iSync

The best way to transfer contacts from your Nokia to your iPhone is to use iSync.
It's unfortunate Apple did not include this app in Lion OSX. An alternative app of iSync in the Mac App Store would've been nice and easier solution to this problem.

The following are the steps to transfer your Nokia contacts to iPhone:

1) Get a hold of iSync:
     - Website courtesy of 'Hansr' download here.
     - Alternatively, you can copy iSync application from Snow Leopard. A full article is mentioned on this link.
     - Unzip the file and put in your 'Applications' folder

2) Download Nokia Plugin from their European website or Australian website. (They're all the same file)
     - Choose your phone model (in my case it's the Nokia N97
     - Make sure iSync is closed before you install plugin
     - Install the plugin

3) Open iSync:
     - Add your device
iSync Application

  - Choose to sync Contacts and/or calendars. (Caution: read options carefully so you don't lose data)

4) Open 'Address Book App' on Mac
       - Double check your contacts from your phone are now on your mac.

5) Sync mac Address Book with iPhone
       - Use iTunes to sync contacts
       - Alternatively, you can use iCloud to sync contacts

Hope this helps. Let me know if any questions.

How To Merge PDF Files in Preview (Snow Leopard)

Ever had the experience of trying to save multiple PDF files into one file but just won't go together?
It took me a while to figure it out and I was kicking myself when I found out.

Here's how to do it:

1) Simply select the files you want to put together and open with "Preview".
It should look something like this. If the sidebar doesn't show, click on the 'sidebar' icon shown below or hold Shift+⌘+D

2) Next click anywhere on the right hand side column and press ⌘+A (Select All). All the PDF thumbnails should now get highlighted.

3) Drag the second icon (or any icon other than the first) ON TOP of the first icon. This will drag all icons onto the first icon.

Alternatively, you can also choose other icons instead of the first to drag onto. I only chose the icons mentioned in 'Step 3' as an example. Play around with it to get the feel and understanding of how it works.

4) You should now see that the first icon has changed to an icon with a 'binder' (see below).
Save this and your new file should now include all selected PDF files. Enjoy!

Note: For other file types such as JPEG, JPG, PNG, etc. Convert first to PDF and then use the drag and drop method.

Welcome

After endless hours of searching through Forums pertaining to Mac related tasks there are still many questions that are unclear or left unanswered. My purpose here in this blog is to try and bring light to those questions - to explain them in a simple and understanding manner.

I am an avid user of all things Mac and in the 3 short years of owning one, I have come to love and learn much of its simplicity, design, performance and everything in between. Being with a Mac is truly an effortlessly enjoyable experience = )

I am currently running OSX Snow Leopard. So for now (until I upgrade to OSX Lion) most of my blogs will be of things related to Snow Leopard.

Feel free to ask any questions related to Mac or any Apple products and I'll do my best to answer them.
